1987
A STAR IS BORN
Mr Mike Young FRICS, a renowned and well respected chartered surveyor with over 40 years’ experience in the sector founded MGY in 1987 opening the first office in Cardiff’s docks area, covering residential sales and surveys, the inception of the company came at a time of the establishment of the Cardiff Bay Development Corporation to regenerate the area. MGY saw major growth through marketing almost all the large, new residential developments in the bay and the city centre.
1992
Mark Iles MRICS joined the company as a graduate surveyor, qualifying in 1996 as a chartered surveyor. Mark was responsible for our commercial agency and Valuations at our Cardiff Bay office. Mark deals with all aspects of commercial property within South Wales working and advising developers and has been instrumental in developing our land agency for residential and commercial along with assisting the residential lettings agency which has seen significant growth.
1996
1996 marked the opening of our third branch office in the Heath area of Cardiff, Cath Evans joined the company as sales manager to run the Heath office.
1999
The development of Cardiff Bay. Adventurers Quay, Roath Basin, a flagship apartment block development in Cardiff Bay, designed to provide modern, waterfront living spaces. Developments such as Adventurers Quay often included amenities, green spaces, and convenient access to shops, restaurants, and cultural attractions. In April 1990 Michelle Bishop joined MGY from Crown & Co with David Griffith, opening our second branch office in the Radyr area of Cardiff.
2017
Management Buyout. Mark Iles, Michelle Bishop and James Thomas who were part of the existing management team, agreed to acquire the MGY business, providing a continuity in leadership and a sense of ownership for the management team. This paved the way for an exciting new vision for the company’s operations, strategy, and direction.
2020
Award Winners. 2021
Fourth Branch Opening. In October 2021, MGY acquired the business of Chris John & Partners of Pontcanna, Cardiff, bringing together two of the longest and renowned businesses in Cardiff which has resulted in a fourth branch office for MGY.
2022
On the 17 May 2022 we opened the doors of our Whitchurch office resulting in a fifth branch office for the company. We are a proud member of the Whitchurch Village community, thank you to all residents for all your support, we will continue to work tirelessly as your trusted agent.
2023
Best Agent In Wales Award. The “Best Estate Agent Guide Award 2023” was awarded to MGY for Marketing | Service | Results.
2024
MGY Estate Agents & Chartered Surveyors proudly announces the acquisition of Seabreeze Homes, marking the amalgamation of two multi-award-winning businesses. This strategic move enhances MGY’s existing market position, footprint and service capabilities as an independent estate agent and chartered surveyors across Cardiff, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Penarth, and the Vale of Glamorgan.
2025
MGY Estate Agents & Chartered Surveyors is delighted to announce the acquisition of Priory Estates and Lettings, a respected residential sales and lettings agency based in Barry. This marks another exciting chapter in MGY’s growth, enhancing it’s reach and services into Barry and the Vale Of Glamorgan.
